Thinking Green
Happy Friday to everyone! Second to the big game this Sunday, the hot topic in the news this week was thinking GREEN and environmental sustainability.
So, I thought it would be fitting to end this week in discussing our environmental sustainability efforts – namely, what we’ve been able to accomplish in 2007 and what we’re looking forward to contributing in 2008.
Being a direct mail and on-demand printing company, we feel that it’s imperative to look for ways to conserve environmental resources.
Committed to the effort of conservation, we made the decision to not only look at what can be recycled, but what equipment would serve us well in this arena. In our printing processes, we elected to use Xerox IGen3™ printing presses because 80 percent of the equipment waste can be sent back to the manufacturer for recycling. We’re proud to partner with a vendor that is also dedicated to conservation. In 2007, Xerox recycled 2.7 million cartridges and diverted 2 billion pounds of waste from landfills.
I’m also very proud of our company’s efforts in 2007. Looking back, stats show that we recycled 80 tons of paper, saving over 1,300 pulp producing trees, half a million gallons of water and approximately 300 cubic yards of landfill space.
Continuing our dedication to this important cause, we are in the process of becoming Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) certified in 2008.
FSC certification is for companies that manufacture, process or trade in timber or non-timber forest products and want to demonstrate to their customers that they operate responsible sourcing policies. Read more on FSC certification.
Becoming certified and displaying the FSC logo will allow us to show all of our current and prospective customers that we are dedicated to this effort.
Conserving environmental resources is a continued focus for us and our vendor partners. It is not only important for today, but for the future of our families.
Enjoy your weekend,
Steve
